Spay/neuter your pet

Talk to your family, friends, neighbours and co-workers about the need to spay and neuter their pets.

Pets are for life!

Before considering a new pet, make sure you know how long it will live and decide whether you can commit to it for life.  If not, don't get it.

Do your research

When getting a pet, do your homework to make sure that the animal is a good fit with your situation and lifestyle, and consider rescue first!

Consume wisely

Try to buy cosmetics, toiletries and cleaning products from companies that do not test on animals, and encourage others to do the same.

Think before you donate

Research the charities you support. Before making a donation, get more information about where exactly your money is going.

Make animal-friendly choices

Say no to fur!

There is so much cruelty inherent in the fur industry - animals confined in small cages for their entire lives, and then killed in inhumane ways.  Don't buy or wear animal fur, or clothing trimmed with fur.

Meatless Mondays

Start a Meat Free Monday schedule with your family and have fun trying out some vegetarian recipes.

Go veg!

Consider building meals around vegetables and plant-based proteins. A vegetarian or vegan lifestyle is not for everyone, but eating less or even no meat can make a huge difference to animals, your health and the environment.

Stay up to date

Be informed about animal welfare issues and initiatives, especially in your city.

Are you entertained?

Before taking your family to events or entertainment facilities that feature performing animals, research the impact on the animals involved.

Support animal friendly initiatives

Write to your federal, provincial and local politicians to let them know your views and ask them to vote in support of animals.
